Times of no libraries

“Libraries will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no libraries.”

Anne Herbert

With the closure of local libraries still making the news, this quote from Anne Herbert seems quite apt, not to mention thought provoking. Imagine a time in the (probably distant) future when our economy starts to pick up and suddenly people think that arts and culture are worth investing in again, only to find most libraries and other cultural institutions have since disappeared.  Will the re-investment ever happen? How much truth is there in a statement like this?
