Christmas books

Christmas is a time for reading, for me at least, when I can really get stuck into those books that I haven’t had time to pick up for the rest of the year. It’s also a time for giving and receiving books, particularly if the TV adverts and hyper publishing industry are anything to go by. Books that are publicised the most in December seem to be mostly written by actors/chefs/sports personalities/comedians etc, which is slightly unrepresentative of the other eleven months of the publishing year, though there is sometimes the occasional award winning novel thrown in for good measure.

This year there are two books on my wish list – The Man Who Rained by Ali Shaw and Show Child by Eowyn Ivey, which recently won the International Author of the Year prize at the National Book Awards. Along with the winners from the other categories she is now in the running for the overall Book of the Year Award, results to be announced next week.

Which books are on your Christmas wish list?
