This article lists the top 100 books as chosen by 500 teachers. Slightly predictable and very reflective of their profession, which I suppose is to be expected. But, in many ways, the top 20 books here wouldn’t be a bad list to work from for someone wanting to broaden their reading experience, as there are some nice diverse titles there.
What I would be more interested to see, however, is what the list might look like if 500 people from a range of different professions were asked to select the books. What about 500 lawyers, or 500 lorry drivers, 500 dentists, 500 ballet dancers, 500 web designers? It would be great to compare the lists they came up with, see how predictable they might be, and discover whether a person’s profession influences their choice of book.
